The second Austrian city, located in a unique natural setting, is Salzburg, a Mecca for its history and its beauty. Famous for having seen the birth of Mozart and for its extraordinary music festivals, Salzburg is a melting pot of extremely varied architectural styles. Indeed, the old city is a real artistic jewel which shelters buildings from the Middle-Ages, the Roman era, the Renaissance or the baroque period…all these periods and all these styles seem to have left their imprints in Salzburg. It is also in the historical centre that you will find the city’s main places of interest : Mozart’s house, the palace of Mirabell and its gardens, the Cathedral and the imposing medieval castle of Hohensalzburg … Thanks to such a rich history and culture Salzburg was declared a Unesco World heritage site in 19997. Anytime of year is the right time of year to visit Salzburg because, as the Austrian poet Hermann Bahr says : “Salzburg is forever beautiful and we always think, at the precise moment when you look at her, that she is more beautiful as ever.” Thus any moment is great to study German in Salzburg !
Founded in 1948, under the patronage of the University of Salzburg, IFK is a intitute specialized in German courses for institutions and companies and welcomes individual students only in summer, from July to August. IFK owns a main building , the “Lehrerhaus”, which is occupied by the beginners’courses, and a students’residence in a beautiful private park of 16,000 m2, and two annexes intended for courses of intermediate and advanced level, one in the old part of the city, at number 19 in Kaigasse street, and the other one inside the university, in the sumptuous Tuscany wing.
The institute offers a 3-week general German course, for all students whatever their level, and an option including a programme of cultural activities.
The centre can also rely on the services of a restaurant which proposes advantageous prices for full board and half board ( it is compulsory to book in advance for the “Lehrerhaus” students).
IFK Salzburg is a founding member of CAMPUS AUSTRIA and an accredited centre of exams for the ÖSD: ÖSTERREICISCHE SPRACHDIPLOM DEUTSCH. (Austrian Diploma for German Language).
