Located in Tuscany, in the middle of Italy, Siena is one of the most beautiful medieval cities in Europe. Like Florence, the regional capital, Siena was a trading and banking city. This affluence allowed the city to adorn itself with palaces and churches decorated by works of art from the greatest artists of that time: Nicola Pisano, Giovanni Pisano, Michelangelo, Donatello, Simone Martini, Beccafumi... Priviledged to a mild Mediterranean climate, Siena is an intimate and compact city which will seduce you at once. Indeed, its peaceful streets with numerous secret corners conceal splendid artistic and cultural treasures. It is from the Piazza del Campo, the town square shaped like a scallop shell, that the city is organized. Since the 18th century, urban rules have demanded that the whole city adapt to the site and follow the curves and the slopes of the hills harmoniously. Admire the colours of Siena, enjoy its lively atmosphere in the evening, and be tempted by the peaceful terraces of the cafes which border its squares. Following the winding streets which lead to Piazza del Duomo, discover the beautiful cathedral whose floor is covered with 56 marble panels representing scenes from the Old Testament and from the Greek mythology. This impressive work represents 78 years of labour and the participation of more than 40 artists. Siena also offers a wide number of noteworthy museums such as the Museo Civico which shelters the main treasures of the city, or the Pinacoteca Nazionale (painting gallery of the Siennese school). Finally, the location of Siena will allow you to enjoy the wonderful Tuscan countryside, famous for its pure light and its beautiful landscapes full of olive groves, vineyards and hills. Living in Siena, in the heart of Tuscany - what a wonderful to learn Italian !
